Pop star Sabrina Carpenter, 27, has been granted a temporary restraining order against a 31-year-old man who allegedly trespassed at her Los Angeles home multiple times in May 2026. Carpenter filed the civil harassment restraining order on May 29 against William Applegate. The case has raised serious concerns about celebrity safety and the nature of obsessive stalking behavior.

What happened on May 23

Carpenter said she first became aware of Applegate on May 23, when he allegedly breached security fencing at her home and approached her front door, as shown in Ring doorbell images referenced in the court documents.

In her declaration, Carpenter says Applegate trespassed onto her neighbor’s property to breach the security fencing protecting her home, then forced his way closer to her residence and advanced directly to her front door.

Carpenter alleges that Applegate physically grabbed the lever of her front door and forcefully pushed it down, actively trying to force his way inside her home without any invitation, permission, or consent whatsoever.

The singer’s security team tried to get him away from the property, but he struggled and insisted that he knew Carpenter and that she was expecting him.

Applegate allegedly remained on the premises until LAPD officers arrived on scene. Applegate was then booked on suspicion of a misdemeanor and released.

He came back

After his arrest, Applegate did not stop. He returned to Carpenter’s home the very next day.

Jorge Lepe, a private security guard for Carpenter, said in his declaration that on the morning of May 24, he observed an SUV pull up near Carpenter’s gate and activate its hazard lights. He observed an individual matching description of Applegate exit SUV and walk toward parked silver Toyota Prius.

According to Lepe, the individual got into Prius, fell asleep in parked Toyota for two hours, then re-parked his car approximately 30 feet from her driveway. When Lepe made contact with the individual, whom he identified as Applegate, he asked him if there was anything he could help him with. Applegate allegedly replied, “No just chilling in my car” before driving away.

Applegate showed up to Carpenter’s home twice more in the next two days after his arrest.

Carpenter’s own words

Carpenter wrote a signed declaration describing the full impact of the incidents on her sense of safety.

“The totality of Applegate’s conduct has caused me significant and ongoing fear for my personal safety and the safety of all individuals residing in my home,” Carpenter wrote.

“This is not the behavior of someone who stumbled upon my property by accident. This is intentional stalking and surveillance directed at me and my residence,” Carpenter wrote in her statement to the court.

“His pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance has caused me severe and ongoing emotional distress, and I am in fear of what he may do if he is not restrained by this court,” she wrote.

Carpenter described Applegate as delusional and said she is in fear of what he may do. She also noted that she has never met him and has no desire to meet him.

What the LAPD said

The concerns were not just for Carpenter and her legal team. Law enforcement backed up her account in strong terms.

LAPD Detective Peter Doomanis wrote in a declaration that in his professional opinion, Applegate has developed a disturbing and irrational fixation on Carpenter. He wrote that the pattern of conduct, which may have begun as early as approximately April 20, 2026, reflects the hallmarks of a fixated, obsessional individual, and that this trajectory is consistent with well-documented patterns of stalking behavior that pose a serious and escalating risk to victim safety.

A police detective involved in the case stated in court documents that Applegate is mentally unstable and poses a clear, credible, ongoing threat.

Doomanis’ declaration also stated that Applegate’s conduct has been with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office for possible criminal charges.

The restraining order

A judge acted quickly on the petition.

On Friday, a judge granted the request, ordering Applegate to stay at least 100 yards from Carpenter, her home, her car, her workplace, and the other residents.

The restraining order also protects Carpenter’s sister, Sarah Carpenter, 29, and her significant other, George Smith, 26.

The petition was supported by Ring camera footage from Carpenter’s home, as well as declarations from the singer’s private security guards and LAPD Detective Doomanis.
